<h3>Chapter 2 "A Short Visit"</h3>
Jean saw everything with his eyes. A typical fantasy tavern with many people in it. Most of them used the same Undead Slayer uniform just like the one Lily and the elf use.
"Welcome to the Undead Slayer Corps!" said Lily. Her voice was a bit enthusiastic this time. Only a bit. Her gesture was only a shrug.
"This isn't where we usually drop off refugee," said the Elf. "However, since it's just you alone, there will be no problem."
"So, where are we actually? This place seems a bit cold." Jean tried to warm his own hands.
"Oh, this tavern is only a part of our hq. Gwathren will show you things around. What's your name?"
Jean was a bit confused before telling his name. This body should've had another name.
"Jean."
"Jean?" she frowned for a bit. "Unique name. Jean, it is. I'll take care of your administration."
As she said that, she left. Even her walking casually was something to watch. So calm, so natural. It's almost as if she was hovering.
Jean turned his face to Gwathren the elf.
"Alright, kid. [[I'll show you things around<-Follow me]]," said him.
Jean's consciousness was a bit offended. 18 years old is not a kid. However, he tried his best to not show it. After all, he is living in a body of a kid.Gwathren pointed to the direction Lily went and tell Jean that was the way to administration ward. Since Undead Slayer Corps wanted to keep the confidentiality, most document were processed there. Since this place is not really used by civilian, only member of the corps really use the administration.
The next spot was 1 level above the tavern. It was the mission lounge. From Jean's perspective, this place looks like a guild. There are mission board where the member of the corps picking their mission. There were attendant desk. According to Gwathren, that desk is for confirming the start and the end of a mission, and to claim reward from the mission.
"Well, mission can only accepted by certain rank. The higher the difficulty of the mission, the higher required rank to take the job." Several member were choosing the mission from the board as he explain. "Also, sometimes we didn't get to choose our mission. we got chosen by the corps to do some confidential mission."
They started to move again as Gwathren finished explaining. There were another stair to the upperfloor. Unfortunately, Gwathren said that place was restricted.
Instead, he bought Jean into a balcony. There, he saw a cold and beautiful scenery. They were sheltering in a mountain.
"Harder terrain for the undead to climb. This is the perfect natural defense against the undead."
It was beautiful but Jean's body was freezing. Gwathren bought him inside again.
[[now go down below<-next]]No more things to see upstairs, so they go downstairs. One level below the Tavern was equipment store. Both civilians and Undead slayer alike were seen looking and buying weapon and armor here.
"There are also lone wolf here," Gwathren said while pointing at a random guy with weapons and armor but no Undead Slayer uniform.
"You mean the guy with armor there? He definitely not looks like a civilian. I thought he was with the corp?" Jean asked.
"Well, the corps members are obliged to use their uniform all the time even in their free time with a few exception such as undercover mission and some other thing." answered Gwathren.
"So, who's that guy?" Jean tilted his head.
"You need to know that there are other people in our line of works. There are us, there are the lone wolves, there are a group of people that didn't want to be binded by the rules, there are bandits. He probably is a lone wolf."
Jean nodded. He understand the situation for a bit. While thinking, he happens to saw a dwarf going into a door away from people.
"[[What's that door?]]" asked Jean.Gwathren turned his sight to the pointed door. "It was Dwarf's workshop. They can be very angry if they feel disturbed. We better stay away from that door."
"We aren't that bad tho!" suddenly a harsh voice was heard from behind. It was another dwarf. He was only as tall as Jean's kid body.
"Hagnir! It's nice to see you here. Are you not forging anything?"
"Ha! I will. I was just delivering some of my works to be displayed here. Finished with your mission?"
"Yea, kinda. Poor Lily didn't want to do this mission but since this is call of duty, she had to."
"But I bet she is calm as ever," Hagnir chuckled.
"I'm worried about her. Her movement are a bit janky at that mission."
"Well, she will get better after some drinks. Why don't you come to my lair?" said Hagnir followed by some Dwarvish laugh. However, the laugh stopped suddenly when he saw Jean. "Well, look's like you bring a kid here."
"Yea," said Gwathren while showing Jean to Hagnir, "we saved him from our last mission. Quite a tough kid. He killed two running undead protecting me."
"Well, not bad for a kid! You sure have a talent for some undead slaying." His dwarvish laugh continued. "Since you are good, I will let you in my lair! I'll smuggle some fine dwarven beer for ya!"
[[Accept the invitation]]
[[Decline the invitation]]Jean, feeling his old self is approriate to drink, accepted the invitation.
"That's what I call a spirit! I'll give ya the best dwarf's beer in my stash!" Hagnir was pleased.
However, Gwathren doesn't seem to agree the idea. "Are you sure we should let him drink dwarf's beer? You remember that even adult human would collapse not long after drinking it, don't you?"
"Well, of course I do!" Hagnir chuckled. "What kind of dwarf would give a dwarf's beer to a mere human child? We'll give ya something better! Haha," The dwarf laughed as he move toward the door. "C'mon! one thing dwarf doesn't have is patience! I need some drink now y'know!"
And so, [[Gwathren and Jean followed Hagnir]].Jean's old self would love to drink with the dwarf. However, looking at his body, he chose to shake his head and politely declined the invitation. The dwarf isn't fond of having his invitation getting declined.
"Aw, c'mon! It's just a fine dwarf's beer. You would love every drop of it!"
And so, [[Gwathren and Jean followed Hagnir]].Before reaching Hagnir's workshop, they walked through a cave-like corridor. The corridor has a lot diverging path. The only clue as to where they go was written in Dwarvish language which Jean didn't understand. Plus, the dimly lit corridor makes it harder to read. Hagnir and Gwathren on the other hand didn't really have the trouble reading them. So, Jean tried his best to not get separated from them.
After a while, their walk was stopped in front of a door with some dwarvish word on it.
"Welcome to my workshop," said Hagnir as he opened the door.
The room was a cave, that was Jean's first impression. There is furnance and some other forging equipment on his right. On the left, there are some couch, fireplace, and what looks like a beer barrel.
He also saw a woman sitting there while trying to get some heat from fireplace.
"Heya Lily! Your friends is here!" shouted the Dwarf.
Lily turned her head to see Gwathren and Jean. She then stood up while waving his hand once.
"You finished his administration, I suppose,"
"Hmm," she nodded. "We have decided where he will stay."
Gwathren nodded back and then turned to Jean. "Sorry, Jean. We can't have random person live in this base. So, we will provide you place to live outside."
"Where will I be settled?" asked Jean.
"Ask her by yourself. She knows more."
It seems that Gwathren didn't want to answer. <i>How unfortunate</i>, he thought. From his old world knowledge, usually elves has somekind wisdom or insight from living longer than ordinary human. His option now is to[[ask Lily->ask Lily about the settlement]].
Or maybe try to [[ask Hagnir jokingly<-ask Hagnir]] because, why not?"All right, I'll ask her."
And so, Jean walked past him and approached Lily. She was sitting in front of a fireplace. Her hands were stretched to the fire. This place were definitely warmer than the whole Corps HQ.
[[Try to chit chat a bit with her<-chat a bit]]
[[Ask her about the settlement]]"How am I supposed to know? I am just a dwarf who dedicate himself to smithing. I don't care for those papers."
Hagnir laugh while drinking his dwarvish beer. He just unconsciously pass a glass of beer to Jean. Not knowing what to do, Jean just sit down and put the glass beside him.
"However, I do some have some knowledge based on the hearsay that they are using the refugee as a bait so the undead will not attack this base."
"what do you mean by <i>bait</i>?"
"You came from an attacked settlement right? Why do you think they build settlements in place very vulnerable to undead's attack?" explained the dwarf. "If they just want to save refugee, why not search another place with natural defense like this one instead?"
He stopped a while to bring something from his weapon rack. A beautifully curved sword covered in it's plain black sheath. <i>A Katana!</i> was the first thing that came into his mind.
"Hey, take that information with a grain of salt. It's just based on a hear say, tho I have my own pride that the information will contain at least a slightest truth." Hagnir went on laughing. "Now, since you are here, would you kindly give it to her. I was in awe of her movement. This sword was inspired by her grace movement when she was training. I'll call it a crescent moon sword!"
Jean grabbed the weapon. Bothered by the hearsay from Hagnir, he sat for a while. <i>There's nothing I can do with that information right now</i>, with that, [[Jean gave her the weapon]]"Were you outside?" Jean asked hesitately.
"Mhm." Lily turned her head to Jean. "What's the matter?"
"No, it just ... you seem to be a bit freezing."
"It's okay." She turned her face back to the fire place. "I'm used to it."
<i>nope, you don't seem to be used with this cold</i>
After that, the situation become awkward. Better [[Ask her about the settlement]].Awkward silence filled the room with uneasiness. Jean tried to speak, but he feels so nervous.
"So, what you want to ask?" this time, her voice sounded so calm it soothe Jean's heart.
"I just want to ask about where I will live."
Lily went on explain the circumstance. This base might have been the best place to fend off or to protect human from undead. That being said, some crucial problem is yet to be addressed.
Imagine living in a snowy mountain where you get less sun and no soil to grow vegetable. Growing a cattle is also not an option as it required a lot of land.
So, they only prioritize Corps member to live here. It's not like they can rest easy as they kept being given duty, but at least they have a place to comeback from mission.
In order to keep Corps member's needs in check, they created towns and cities to grow food and make other daily needs. They filled the towns and cities with survivor and peasants to fill it. The nobles helped them to organize the city as they are good with administration.
"You are going to be sent into the Central. It is quite safe town as it was placed a bit close to the mountain range. Should anything ever happen, the Corps can react quickly," she explained.
"Will any of you accompany me?"
"We will accompany you until the station. From there, someone will take care of you."
[[Continue->hagnir came]]Jean brought the weapon to Lily who was sitting alone in front of a fireplace. Her hands were stretched to the fire. This place were definitely warmer than the whole Corps HQ.
"Were you outside?" Jean asked hesitately.
"Mhm." Lily turned her head to Jean. Then, she pointed to the sword he was holding, "That sword...."
"Oh yeah." Jean handed the sword. "Hagnir told me to give it to you. He said this sword is inspired by your movement when you swing your sword. He named it Crescent Moon Sword."
She took the weapon and inspected it excitedly. There was a faint trace of smile shown on her face. She stood up and then pulled the sword from the sheath. The sound of sword pulled from it's sheath filled the room and giving a beautiful sound effect to her movement drawing the sword.
After looking at the beauty of the sword, she sheathed it back. She took a deep breath and before letting out the air.
"What do y'think, young missy?" Hagnir chuckled.
"The sword looks beautiful. But I don't know if I can use it properly." Lily stared at the sword. "Nonetheless, Thank you." She smiled to both Jean and Hagnir.
[[And thus, they parted from Hagnir]]. Gwathren and Lily lead Jean to where he will get transported.Lily bought the sword in his left hand. They walked past the crowd in the equipment market area. It was not too crowded, but if Jean got lost, it will be a hassle for them to search Jean.
After a long walk, they go downstair. There, Jean can see somekind of teleportation station. "This one will sent you to the destined town," said Gwathren.
"Why don't just train me as corps member?" ask Jean in a very childish manner.
"Sorry, it's not that easy." Gwathren paused for a moment. "You definitely can enlist as Corps member, but there's a long way before you become one."
Jean stepped inside the teleport circle.
"From now on, the choice is yours to make."
That was last Gwathren's word before Jean's vision was enveloped by white light. Then, as if suddenly all sound was erased, a sudden deaf-like silence filled his ear.
Slowly, the silence turned into some sort of crowd noise. The white light faded gradually. Then, there is someone hold somekind of board made of wood with name "Jean" on it.

"HALT!" shouted Hagnir.
Hagnir bought something in his hand. It was a katana. He handed it to Lily who accepted it with a smile.
"It's called The Crescent Moon sword. This sword was inspired by your grace movement when I saw you training. Please accept it."
